Fred sets club mark with 21.63 at Monponsett

Fred Naymie set a new club record for heaviest single-day bag with a 5-fish limit at Monponsett West that weighed in at a whopping 21.63 lbs., an average of 4.33 lbs. per fish. Needless to say, Fred took first place and also the day’s lunker award as his big fish weighed 5.86 lbs. Fred’s first place finish also tied a club record for most consecutive wins (4), having won previously at Champlain, Long Pond Lakeville, and Webster.

Second place went to Jon Medeiros who also weighed a nice limit that came in at 17.39 lbs., normally a pretty safe bet to seal a win. Unfortunately for Jon, it came on Fred’s banner day and fell short.

In third was Ed Doyle with an impressive 13.10 lb. bag of just 4 fish.

The day was pretty much feast or famine. Guys that figured it out came in with 4 or 5 hefty fish and battled it out at the top with double-digit bags. Those that didn’t pretty much had to suffice with a couple of dinks—if they caught anything at all—and struggled through a long day on the water. There wasn’t much in-between.

So that wraps up our 2017 calendar year schedule as far as qualifying events go. Next up will be our annual non-qualifying ‘mystery tournament’ on October 7. Beyond that, it will be the 2018 Easter Bunny Open, and our first qualifying event of the 2018 calendar year TBD.
