Lake Nippenicket - Jun. 16, 2018
Fred came out on top after a tough day of fishing at Lake Nippenicket. The win cemented his fourth consecutive Angler of the Year Award. Coangler Nick Mulcahy followed up in second to win the 2018 Coangler of the Year award, his second in a row. Fred’s bag also contained the event’s lunker, a 3.47 lb. fish.
The day was quite a change from the previous weather pattern of unseasonably cool, overcast weather of the two days prior. Tournament day was warm (later hot), with clear, dry blue skies and a northerly wind that picked up progressively as the day wore on, after about 10 a.m. Water temps were between 70 and 72 degrees.
The fish were very selective and the bite was very tough; not a single angler had a limit. There was no dock talk regarding the successful baits or patterns, but slow, soft plastic presentations seemed to be in wide use. Those who tried jigging and frogging in the shallow, weedy back area of the lake reported no luck with those usually-successful tactics.
This wraps up Avid&rsquo's 2018 season. Next up is our first 2019 event, on September 1 at John&rsquo's Pond.
