Johns Pond - Jun. 11, 2022
Avid’s day at John’s Pond began beautifully in terms of perfect fishing weather: overcast but bright with no chance of rain; flat calm; and air temperature at a cool but comfortable 60 degrees or so. By the end of the day, the sun was out, a gentle breeze was blowing, and the air had warmed to the upper 70s. This called to the recreational boaters but the lake and ramp remained much less busy than we have seen it in the past. Water temperature checked in at about 73 degrees.
Indeed, the weather made for good fishing as all contestants weighed fish and 4 anglers checked in with limits. Post spawn fish seemed to be stationed in the 8-10 foot range, in some cases guarding fry; in others, feeding on it. Later in the day some fish moved up much shallower along the shoreline brush and around docks.
The club record big fish came from this body of water at the same time of year so, even though the spawn had concluded, the possibility of seeing some big fish was high. While no monsters were weighed this time around, the lunker was a smallmouth that came in at a respectable 3.27.
When it was all over Nick claimed the lunker award for that smallie. Mike Caudle came in second with an exclusively largemouth bag that weighed in at 9.10 lbs. Dave Waugh’s mixed limit was enough to take the win with a total of 10.96 lbs.
Up next is an evening tournament at Long Pond Lakeville next weekend.
