Slim Pickings at Ashumet. Shpack Wins With Just 3 Fish

Our first club tournament in 2008 brought 14 anglers out on a chilly, breezy and sometimes rainy day. The day started cool and got colder as water temps actually dropped as the day went on and nearly fell back into the 40s by weigh-in time. It all added up to a pretty tough bite. Even though there were some fish on beds, they were extremely finicky, as shown by the meager totals brought to the scales.

In all, only 13 fish were weighed and more than half the field went fishless. John Shpack managed to find them though, and weighed in 3 bass for a winning weight of 7.07 lbs. Fred Naymie got the day's big fish with a 2.97 lb. smallmouth.

There was a lot of griping about the size and quality of the fishery but Wade put a smile on everyone's face with a tasty post-tournament barbecue that warmed everyone up. Thanks again Wade for the extra effort you put into feeding the troops!

Our next tournament is at Webster where we'll hopefully see warmer weather, sunnier skies, and more fish!
